About Middletown NJ
Middletown is a township in Monmouth County, NJ. As of the 2018 census, its population is approximately 65,490 people, making it the most populous municipality in Monmouth County. The first European landing in what is now known as Middletown was in 1609. Middletown Township was originally formed in 1693 and was then incorporated as a township by the Township Act of 1798 of the New Jersey Legislature. The origin of the township’s name is unknown, but presumably, it was for its location in the middle of something. Middletown Township is bordered by the Monmouth County municipalities of Atlantic Highlands, Colts Neck, Fair Haven, Hazlet, Highlands, Holmdel, Keansburg, Red Bank, Rumson, Sea Bright, and Tinton Falls.
